MEET OUR KIDS
OK Parents, here’s your time to shine. As part of our website we will be giving proper credit to the “superstar” children we treat. We hope that this showcase both excites your children, and helps provide motivation to other families out there who are going down this difficult road for the first time.
If parents wish, they will be able to provide their e-mail address so that
other parents can reach out with questions, or to simply congratulate you on
being such a wonderful Mom or Dad!
MADISON’S STORY
Madison is 6 years old and was born with Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. Right
after birth she had surgery for myelomeningocele closure. When she was
13 days old she had a shunt placed because she started to develop increased
head circumference and was diagnosed with hydrocephalus. When
she was 6 weeks old her shunt had to removed because of an infection, and
a temporary system placed. A month later, she had a permanent shunt
placed. Unfortunately, 15 months later she presented with signs of shunt
infection once again and needed another shunt revision. She had to stay
in the hospital for a month on IV antibiotics to clear the infection before
her Mom could take her back home. Madison did great for a little while,
than when she was just shy of her 4th birthday, she needed another shunt
revision.
Madison
wears AFO's but is able to move around freely and has a steady gait. Madison
is bright, alert and active just like any other 6 year old. Recently
her Grandmother held a fundraiser to help with the research costs of the
Hydrocephalus & Neuroscience
Institute. Using only her cute smile, she was able to pull on the heart
strings and open the wallets of the attendees. She collected $2,500.00
and is pictured proudly presenting Dr. Pattisapu with the donated cash.
