OK Parents, here’s your time to shine. As part of our website we will be giving proper credit to the “superstar” children we treat. We hope that this showcase both excites your children, and helps provide motivation to other families out there who are going down this difficult road for the first time.
If parents wish, they will be able to provide their e-mail address so that other parents can reach out with questions, or to simply congratulate you on being such a wonderful Mom or Dad! For our 2nd child to showcase, we would like to present Dometric!
DOMETRIC'S STORY
Dometric was born in May, 2003 with Spina Bifida and had closure surgery the same day he was born. When he was 25 days old, he developed Hydrocephalus and had his second surgery to insert a VP shunt. He continued to reach developmental milestones and then his shunt failed. When he was only 18 months old, he required another surgery to revise his shunt.
Since his last revision, Dometric has not had any shunt related problems, but his mother constantly worries about his shunt failing again. Despite all the challenges Dometric faced early in his life, he has developed into a bright, alert, and playful child, just like any other child his age. Although he has some lower extremity atrophy, he is able to walk and run without assistance. Dometric is a truly amazing child that deserves a better way to treat his hydrocephalus, if only a better way were available.
