MEET OUR KIDS
OK Parents, here’s your time to shine. As part of our website we will be giving proper credit to the “superstar” children we treat. We hope that this showcase both excites your children, and helps provide motivation to other families out there who are going down this difficult road for the first time.
If parents wish, they will be able to provide their e-mail address so that
other parents can reach out with questions, or to simply congratulate you on
being such a wonderful Mom or Dad!
ANNA’S STORY
Anna was born with a Chiari I Malformation and Aqueductal Stenosis. When
she was only 4 days old she received her first shunt. She required 3
more shunt revisions before she reached the age of 2 years. At
age 4 it was time for yet another shunt revision. Anna was lucky to
avoid any more shunt surgeries all the way through elementary and middle school. When
she was 17 she needed another revision as she had outgrown the old shunt that
had been placed when she was just a small child.
Anna always had good
grades, but suffered from chronic headaches and seizures. Just before her
20th birthday, Anna's headaches were getting worse and it was necessary for
her to undergo a Posterior Fossa Decompression due to her Chiari malformation,
and she also needed another shunt revision. Now, Anna only suffers from
an occasional headache and the seizures are controlled. She is just
shy of her 21st birthday and plans on continuing her education at a local
college. Now that Anna is an adult, she has new worries about health
insurance coverage, and leading an independent life. Anna is bright,
alert, has a pleasant disposition and her family knows she will attain her
goal of a college degree.
